Tifway 419 Hybrid Bermuda
Tifway 419 is the most popular top quality warm season turfgrass for Mediterranean climates. Most of the golf courses in la Costa del Sol have been planted with this variety. Released in USA in the fifties, it remains still in the top Bermuda in the American Official Trials.
Tifway 419 is the true interspecific hybrid Bermuda:
Cynodon dactylon x Cynodon transvaalensis
Cynodon tranvaalensis is an African species of Cynodon Genus that provides to Tifway 419 the following qualities:
- Drought resistance
- Fine texture
- Disease resistance
The improved bermuda varieties, are not true hybrids, as they don’t add the African Cynodon transvaalensis qualities.
True Hybrid Bermuda must always be planted by sod or sprigs. Seed is not available.
Features

- Irrigation water requirements lower than any other cool season grass. (30%).
- Under persistent drought conditions, the hybrid Bermuda is not killed. It remains dormant until the water supply (irrigation or rainfall) is renewed.
